Manitoba Farm Family

Hey! I'm Mélanie, your local Microgreens farmer...

Farming is in my blood. My mom grew up on a farm in St. François Xavier, MB and my dad's family also grew food to sell at their small country store. However, it took 15 years of working in fashion to find out I'm really a farm girl at heart!

My farm, Green Stock, is a small "direct to community" farm that offers quick home deliveries anywhere in the Winnipeg area including La Salle, Oak Bluff and Headingley.

What Are Microgreens?

Microgreens are the earliest stage of a vegetable plant’s development, after the sprouting stage.

They are “living foods” – Purposefully utilized in their most nutritious and delicious state.

In the photo below, you can see sprouts on the left, microgreens in the middle, and a more mature vegetable plant on the right:

My Top 6 Microgreens:

Pea Microgreens have:

  • Significant amounts of vitamin C (66.7%)

  • Reasonable amounts of vitamins B1 thiamin (12.5%)

  • B5 pantothenic acid (15.0%)

  • They are particularly rich in vitamin B9 folate (10.5%), a nutrient essential for DNA synthesis and cell division.

  • They are rich in the minerals iron (11.6%), manganese (10.6%), and choline (10.5%)‌ essential in many body processes and supporting heart health, boosting the immune system, and aiding detoxification.

Sunflower Microgreens:

Known for their nutty flavor and crunchy texture, Sunflower shoots are packed with vitamins A, B, D, E, K, and essential minerals. They contain eight essential amino acids and beneficial plant compounds like antioxidants and polyphenols, aiding in combating oxidative stress and inflammation.

Radish Microgreens:

Radish shoots are a nutrient powerhouse, boasting high levels of vitamins C, copper, and folate. They’re rich in antioxidants, promoting cellular repair, and essential minerals like calcium and iron. Their distinct peppery flavor adds a unique touch to meals, making them versatile to any diet.

Broccoli Microgreen nutrition is tremendous and includes:

  • vitamins A, B, C, E, and K,

  • macro-elements calcium, magnesium, and phosphorous and micro-elements iron, copper, and zinc.

  • Broccoli Microgreens' sulforaphane is even higher and more potent than sprouts or mature broccoli. Sulforaphane is one of the critical micronutrients in fighting cancer.

The thing I love most about these varieties (other than the many health benefits) is…

They’re so easy to use!

In fact, if you want to taste REAL FOOD and feel REALLY GREAT, I recommend you add them to every single meal.
